There’s more than corn in Indiana (really, there is). While Indiana may not be the first place that comes to mind while planning a vacation, there are plenty of great places to visit in the state. Indiana is often referred to as a boring state with nothing to do. In fact, people joke about Hoosiers going to Walmart or driving around for fun because they are so bored. Whether or not that is true is irrelevant for this blog. Instead of talking about everything Indiana doesn’t have, we are going to talk about what Indiana DOES have. Don’t worry, the list isn’t very long.
The Dunes

One of the most popular outdoor destinations in Hoosier country is the Indiana Dunes state park. If you are tired of seeing corn and soybeans, you can make the trip to Indiana paradise. While the water may not be as blue or warm as the water in the Bahamas, there is one advantage; no sharks. On a more serious note, Lake Michigan is a perfect destination to escape the summer heat. The dunes also provide a great place for the kids to play and run around. It’s almost like we have the ocean in our backyard. Well, not really, but we can pretend.
Winona Lake Trails

Indiana is also home to some great places to hike, bike, and go for a jog. One of my favorite spots for all three of these activities is the Winona Lake Bike Trail, located in Warsaw, Indiana. The paved trail goes through the woods and is a great place to go if you want to see some wildlife. There are also plenty of single lane dirt trails for those who like to bike in the woods. The trails are located right next to Winona Lake and “The Village”, a strip of local shops and restaurants. If you aren’t looking to exercise (I won’t judge), you can look around in the shops or grab a bite to eat instead.
Clifty Falls

Don’t go chasing waterfalls (corny, I know). Indiana is pretty flat, so waterfalls aren’t as abundant in our state. However, Indiana does have some amazing waterfalls in the southern part of the state. Located in Madison Indiana, Clifty Falls is home to some beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. You will undoubtedly get some great pictures for your Instagram page, and all of your friends will be jealous of the fun you are having in Indiana.
You see? Indiana isn’t so bad after all. Whether you are a homegrown Hoosier or someone who is just passing through, you should definitely check these places out.
