Have you ever had a night where sleep just flat out refused to come? Where you’ve laid in the dark for an hour or more and still nada? Well, that’s me tonight, unable to find sleep. So, I decided to step outside for some fresh air and suddenly had an idea for a blog post. Are you ready for it? Nature at night.
I went outside and sat on a swing near my apartment, and just listened to the world around me. The air was abuzz with the sounds of cicadas and crickets and the sky was surprisingly clear, allowing me to gawk at the stars above and just think of how big the universe really is. Something about looking up into the night sky makes me feel calm.
I’m not going to get all preachy on you guys, I’m just sharing one way I try and beat insomnia. I think getting away from your phone, tv, laptop, etc. can really help you clear your mind. When you leave those things behind and just step outside into the night, there’s a calming sensation. You feel like you can breathe deeper and fuller. You feel free of wires and worries, and you’re able to let go for just a little while.
I think nowadays people are attached to technology like a dog on a leash. But I’ve always believed in letting my dog run free once in awhile. So I want to encourage you guys to unhook your leash, put down your phone or your laptop, step away from the TV, and go outside. You won’t regret it!
I love going out at night and just listening to the nightlife. The crickets chirping, the bull frogs croaking, the wind rustling leaves and bushes. Something about it is just freeing and relaxing to me. So if you ever find yourself unable to sleep, maybe step outside and breathe in the night air for a minute. See if that is of any help!
Did you know there are musical compositions inspired by the night? It even has its own name, “nocturnes”. It actually originated all the way back in the 19th century when the first set of nocturnes were published in 1814!
This video has a lot of them compiled if you fancy a listen! Although these are great, it still plays second fiddle to the real deal. If you listen, the night has its own melodies.
This is where I leave you guys, but I want to just say one more time that I think taking a trip outside would be very beneficial to your overall health.
Goodnight!
