If you’re like me, you may not find the most enjoyment in being outdoors. Sure, the sunlight is nice and you want to soak up some Vitamin D, but being outdoors for extensive periods of time is NOT your cup of tea. Or, maybe you enjoy being outdoors, but live in an area where it’s difficult to be outdoors for a long period of time. This article will discuss outdoor alternatives, such as reading, watching TV, working out, and coloring.

Indiana is often very humid, and the temperature is almost always too hot or too cold for comfort. Due to this, I often prefer to spend my time indoors. reading is a great way to pass time. I mostly read current articles on social media platforms such as Facebook. However, during the winter when I have extended periods of time to dedicate to reading, I often go to actual books (shocking, I know). Two of the best series I’ve ever personally read are the “Unblimished” trilogy by Sara Ella and the “Firebird” trilogy by Claudia Gray. You can read more about them by following the links below.

Watching TV is also a great outdoor alternative. Many people, including myself, love Netflix and its counterparts, such as Hulu and 123 Movies. My favorite Netflix series at the moment is The Society, in which a group of high school kids go on a field trip and end up in an alternate dimension. From there they have to decide how to survive, and this, create their own “society.” I also really enjoy Riverdale, a series in which meddlesome teens seek knowledge to bring justice to their town and bring light to the corrupt ways of town officials.

If you want to feel more productive, working out is a perfect outdoors alternative. Go to your school’s rec facility, or become a member of a local gym. Planet Fitness memberships start as low as $10 a month, and other gyms like Anytime Fitness have similar deals. If you struggle to create your own workout, consult an athletic trainer or even some reliable internet sources for your next workout.

Lastly, coloring and drawing are great ways to pass the time if going outdoors is undesirable. Coloring and drawing have been proven to reduce stress and anxiety levels and improve cognitive function. Adult coloring books can have funny and entertaining themes to add light to your pastime. They start as low as $5.99 on Amazon, and pencils can be purchases for as low as a couple dollars from your local convenience store. I hope these ideas help you enjoy your time indoors!
